The ML actually stated that their "relationship" is contractual. He stated it a few time before and not even beating around the bush about it, just straightto the point. He doesn't want the MC to fall for him further as he can see that he is getting emotional with him. For the ML he doesn't eantto get emotionally get involved with the MC or anyone for the fact. He's setting or stating the boundaries so in the long run or after their contract ends, the MC wouldn't be a 'burden' to him nor he will be for the MC too.
Yeah, the ML is an asshole but come on, he stated the contract relationship they have and that's it'll all an act. The mixed signals are a no no and can't defend him from that. The MC agreed with the contract so I think the ML just wants him to remind of him of his position.
