Good question. My first BL related materials that I've read going by my mangago reading history (had to check because I don't remember):
Discovered on this site -
1st Manhwa Webtoon (digital) : Shutline (May 2022) (this is top tier writing and the art is incredible - almost as if I'm reading some great Japanese BL manga at my friend's house)
My OP before I edited them:
Good question. My first BL related materials that I've read going by my mangago reading history (had to check because I don't remember):
Discovered on this site -
1st Manhwa Webtoon (digital) : Shutline (May 2022) (this is top tier writing and the art is incredible - almost as if I'm reading some great Japanese BL manga at my friend's house)
1st Manga/Webtoon/Vertical Comic (digital): Love Lesson ~The Boy Next Door Helps with Sex, Too (either Jun or July 2022) (it was ok)
I'm just a casual reader so don't quiz me on anything about BL lol ahem ( ° ʖ °)
From a jp kr friend's treasure stash in her room (it's practically a section in her room, sort of like a BL showroom/shrine in her big closet room - that was shocking to randomly walk into while I was exploring her house with her. The power of BL female fan should never be underestimated) -
1st BL related jp anime (official kr): No Love Zone (recent) (2024) (I ended up trying to read the webtoon and completed it after "many" springs-summers - feels like I've aged trying to read it in korean. In case any of you are learning the language, it's best to have a friend who is a native speaker. It helps a lot. I plan to reread in English)
1st BL related jp anime (by a self published mangaka who's also extremely well known and admired across the BL fanbase) (official jp) and I'm not sure whether it's appropriate to mention the title here (I do think it's not BL but H or maybe bara) (2024) so I won't mention the title, I only want to make others know that this type of self made and successful artist exists. If you're still curious about it, I strongly recommend checking out pixiv to discover the amazing artists there.
1st attempt trying to read a BL Manhwa book alongside its official ch translation (also physical book adaptation) (2024): The Unquenchable Mr. Kim (meaning I've read the Kr and Ch Tw at my friend's house during the break with her) (the Chinese version is uncensored, so you can guess why my friend bought the books even though she can't read it lol)
1st BL manga (physical): Crimson Spell (2024) (I was stunned by the art and story - it's one of the best recs that I've got from my friend, and of course, they're not my books although I wouldn't mind buying them in the future _ currently suBLime is releasing this digital print, I'd like to read the official English when it's completed. Then that'll be my first time reading this manga in English)
1st BL Manhua (also discovered many from my friend's collection): I have to say idk ( ° ʖ °) I only read official on official platforms and the physical books are all from my friend's library. I don't own them, I read solely for the art. I've been upgraded to an air conditioner after hanging out with a die hard BL fan (the truth is, I don't remember what my first BL manhua was - nothing remarkable)
1st BL manhua related anime: Heaven Official's Blessing (2024) (I watched the anime with my friends, all BL fans lol that was chaotic. We did a marathon and didn't sleep. I would recommend it - the anime series, not the part where we willingly sleep deprived ourselves ahem ( ° ʖ °) because I love stories that have elements like in Crimson Spell so this anime is also a total hit, if I must say so myself. Go to crunchyroll and watch it with your good friends who are also BL fans. Happy bonding and simping) (づ ̄ ³ ̄)づ
Thanks for reading
