Sorry but I'm not really into forgiving the mother here. The "it's her first time being a mother' is just his excuse, but what's her excuse? It's not like she didn't experience being a mother- up until the death of her husband she was a mother and a wife. And it's in no way an excuse to just leave your minor child alone and expect them to grow up pretty nice unscathed.
