I mean, I can tolerate them being shitty ONLY IF there is some sort of regret/redemption arc (I actually love regretful male leads, idk why). I can still read the story just for the sake of finishing it but I'm gonna hate him until the end if he doesn't change
But CHEATING?? NOPE. I can't even tolerate it from the main character themself. I do read a lot of stories with main characters that sleep around in the beginning, but once they're in a relationship they NEED to be faithful. I can only tolerate cheating by the main character in a story if they're in an abusive relationship/marriage where they CAN'T leave and they cheat on the abuser with the male lead

Omg same, did too many red flags damage our mind thinking, we seen to much red flag tops that we just gave up and go for the cheating (if that makes sense since english is not my first language.)

i personally think it's weird when people can forgive characters who rape/abuse the mc if they change or redeem themselves, but won't ever do the same if a character cheats (and changes). i mean, the excuse that it's just fiction should extend to both scenarios, and it's strange to me that literal crimes can be brushed over but cheating which is literally nothing compared to that can't be. i honestly just don't understand the reasoning behind it, so yeah I find it weird.

Well my question is why would you forgive them in the first place, both are weird dawg be it being shitty or a red flag or infidelity, well it's a different matter if both of them are shitty XD

Thank you for your replies, it's nice to have someone understand me and some who find me weird to. Personally, if it were fiction I can forgive them but if it's in real life , at the first sign of an abusive partner it's literally a big NO. Growing up in an abusive household makes you always watch out for these kind of things. I'm just happy there's stories that gives me all kind of emotions, especially when there's a satisfying redemption arc. Have a good day all of you
