All the angst just to end without resolving anything and communicating what needed to be communicated to each other. It's all only in their heads. The part where they went "Why didn't you say anything" and "Because you never tell me anything either" was such a crucial turning point that should have been concluded later on with improved communication later on, but no, the most they did was say I love you.
