Most of yall might find it weird cuz yeah, the duke did technically raise him. BUT he did his best, distanced himself from the boy, gave the boy freedom to choose (turned him down multiple times) but nope in the end the boy still ‘chose’ the duke and that’s perfectly fine because he is of Age, and finally has the mental capacity to make decisions clearly for himself . So no, i do not associate this with ‘grooming’ but more of an unrequited love that finally came true and it’s beautiful.
