I was rereading and noticed smth kinda weird. The second half of chapter 7, eunsan picks up his brother after his practice with Ian. Eunpa (eunsan’s brother) drinks Ian’s protein drink and chokes so Ian pulls out a towel or sweater to wipe his mouth, and Eunsan takes out his handkerchief. Later on, Ian jorks it using Eunsan’s handkerchief that he stole and inhales the towel thing he used to wipe Eunpa’s mouth…ik Ian’s obsessed with Eunsan but am I interpreting this correctly, that he’s so desperate for Eunsan, he’s jorking his peanits with something he used to wipe Eunsan’s brother’s mouth with ??

Obsession and devotion disguised as love, in an attempt to fill a void—we find purpose and meaning in chasing after something that makes us feel “whole”, even if we can feel it may not be the best thing for us to do. Dennis chases after Todd, even going against his moral code + literal job by shooting a sheep, to prove he is devoted to Todd, and puts him first. I thought this story was about being gay and “sinning”, going down the dark path. But tbh, I feel like this can also be a cynical take on religion? God is seen as benevolent and all knowing—so then why does he make a man sacrifice his own son to prove his loyalty? And in the end, we find out it is a test to prove the man’s worthiness as a follower of God, and a lamb is sacrificed instead. In this story, Dennis is both the man and the lamb—he offers himself as a sacrifice to Todd, knowing it would be the end of the road for him, but he would do anything to chase after him. It’s dark, it’s desperate, and I love how many ways this story can be interpreted.

I binge read all 8 chapters in English and looked at the Korean raws. Tragic ending fr… I know sheep are the ultimate sacrifice and looked as a symbol of devotion, especially in religious texts. But with the ending, it seems our main character strayed too far from his ultimate goal and ended up sacrificing himself to a “greater power”. Dennis’s loneliness and boredom led him to Todd in the first place, who absolutely used this knowledge to his advantage. It’s kind of awful to think back on it now, to see Todd teaching Dennis how to hunt knowing it was completely futile—the idea of “teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime”, knowing Dennis absolutely sucks at hunting…which ties in perfectly about their conversation on sheep being the oldest domesticated animal. If humans disappeared one day, so would sheep. And so when Todd disappears, it makes sense who would soon follow in his footsteps…

I read 9 chapters of this and I still can’t tell if this is a good story or not.
