A rather quick and complex introduction that sets up for the future, that came too soon, but I guess that's where the author wanted to focus more on.
I quickly picked up that the MC is quite timid, indecisive, and self-denial. A tragic character.
Perhaps due to her nature, her narration are a lot about her boys and her husband, and all her actions are dedicated to them.
It is later established that people don't see her boys or her husband as people, but rather a relief that they are safe in general. It's a unique thought that has been a theme of this story. She referred to herself as a pet when her brother was trying to drag her back home. Showing us the sad and cruel reality of the world she lives in. She phrases her own actions of saving her husband, not out of love or repaying his kindness, but she lives with the thought that she saved him for her own pride. "I want to be useful" or needing a reason to live. She found her answer in the form of her two boys. She was clinging onto an invisible sting of hope of finding something that would allow her to breathe and live and have purpose throughout her life. A silent shout in the dark. I find it very sad that we don't get to see or explore more about how she had lived, even if it was hinted, it was very rushed. Even when her husband found her struggling under her brother, the story never explored the healing process. The night has passed and it was morning, and life just continues, but what about her scars that are so deeply wounded to the point of continuing her day as if nothing has happened?
A victim's story that wasn't given the time of day but was brushed under the rug.
What was the point of giving the main character such a complex and intense life, and skim over it and only show the now?
This kind narrative is sadly too cliche and overused but never have I seen done correctly besides a rare few.
In the end, I don't ask what this story wants to convey, but rather see it as another mass produced fantasy noble story.

I love the story up until the art changed in season 2
Season 1's art was not only beautiful but the storytelling was perfect--focusing on building characters: core belief, strengths, banter, challenges, and learning magic along with Shirone and his classmates
Season 2's art is a downgrade with it's line weight, colors, and expressiveness, and character understanding, as well as the storytelling being dog shit that's just a mush of 5 different story perspectives
the content of season 2 also downgraded--blonde girl and red getting awfully close when they only just met
Blondie is only here to be a girl that only talks about boys and love despite her strong outward appearance
everyone gets stupid and thinks dirty just so the story could portray Shirone as a pure rightous hero who saves a girl
and again with the oversharing of this random lady and then aspiring to be like her??!
the currently main focus is the ruins, but love, drugs, the past are all being forced upon this journey that hasn't even started!!!
readers already understand Shirone's character
