FROM BEEHIVE SCANS:Rookie actor Seo Yeon-Oh lives a pathetic life as a no-namer; paying his dad'...
One thing about this artist though is that they know how to block scenes effectively. First it's Yeon-oh mostly unclothed, always the one begging for scraps of affection, then we're hit with a reversal after building up to it, where he's bundled up in bright colours, in a new environment, placed significantly higher and looking down upon Jae-hyeok, and then after months of being haunted by eachother, we're given the penultimate of them dressed down, at their most vulnerable, bare and young both, where they finally meet on the same page. It's beautiful. also, the scene in the bar near the end, it reminds me so much of In The Mood For Love!
Three stars because they made my boy Yeon-oh go through so much shit and he barely gets an apology from anyone. I would have liked Yeon-oh's abusers to face the type of justice he would deem acceptable, none of the cloak and dagger shit. Kudos to Jae-hyok, he's not the shittiest male love interest out there, but he's not the best. He's shitty and he's stunted, and he should be glad Yeon-oh loves him despite the shit he refuses to fix.
Sometimes I wish we'd be done with this super mega ultra misogyny and putting fictional men through it. I hate that every single assault Yeon-oh has gone through is essentially just for Jae-hyok to go "i'm no better than them!". it's disgusting and we should be done with it. this story would be just as effective and heartbreaking even if it didn't have half the sexual assault in it.
