10 years ago, after “the Gate” that connected the real world with the monster world open...
this was very fun but i would go in with average expectations, ppl really overhype it and you get to reading it and there's all these mysteries and bc it's so beloved you get excited but then everything is resolved in the most mid way, fights become totally predictable very quickly, no characters really matter, even when the mom wakes up and you think ok this might deive thw plot somewhere interesting it literally affects nothing and jonwoo thinking she would disapprove was clearly a plot device so that he could arrive mid-raid and stun everyone. it's a typical power fantasy and there's nothing wrong with that but i do wish people would stop acting like it's something it's not. there are so many interesting things to explore in this world and the story just , there are so many red herrings and our mc loses all semblance of personality as soon as he gets a power up, i hesitate to even call him a typical broody guy bc at least that would be a personality. he just exists to fight and his decisions barely ever have any consequences, he killed a human for the first time? oh no biggie this isn't a life altering event at all bc they were bad guys so killing them doesn't matter, oh i used my teleporting ability and can't get to my sister in time oh no biggie i'll just go on my dragon real quick, oh my sister is depressed? no she's not anymore. and the romance plotline, if u can even call it that, is literally just hae-in getting a crush bc he smeels good and saves her and then it's like she's in love with him even though they only spoke a handful of times and jinwoo only seemed to admire her up until like the very end where he developed feelings for her too ig. his family barely shows up despite being his deiving force, don't just tell us he cares about them SHOW US. and power fatigue jesus the power fatigue, him never losing and no one even compring to him and then the time travel uf. yeah. it's three stars for me, i know i only complained but i did enjoy it a lot too, it was a real fun read with a good mystery and honestly it's all the wasted potential that frustrates me because it could've been so much more.... i do recommend giving it a chance though, it's got good action
