Tbh, you can like a character even if they do bad things. the important thing here is to not romanticize behavior like this in real life and remember that this is a fictional story: you can like characters like the ML but it doesn't mean you support his acts in real life or that it's a reflect of your morals irl!

Personally, feel like most people just know fiction vs reality. In fiction a person can act in
one way and completely life switch and never go back to the way they were before. However in real life of course most people don't change overnight and relapse on past ways. We all can simp and have a good time here because these stories take place in option 1.

The problem is that if someone young reads smth like this (not specifically bl story) they might not be able due to the lack of experience differentiate what is ok only for fiction and not ok for real life. I remember in my teenage years being a fun of some characters at whom i look back now and think god he was a total selfish douchebag. But back then i thought they were cool and likable. So i agree that it would be good if we had less red flag main characters nowdays, cz not all ppl can just read a story and enjoy it for the story sake without romanticising it as a scenario for the real life. I still read such stories cz lets be honest most of them are like this and the story and art can be still good, but i am a bit tired of this already, i just want to have nice characters fallingvin love, overcoming some difficulties, and it could be smth other than abuse, manipulation, etc. I mean lets romantise and enjoy couples caring for each other, tryingvto communicate, not hurting eachvother physicallybin bed, etc. There are other obstructions in life that can make the story interesting, trying to communicate with anothervperson is hard enouth in itself, no need to add shitty personality to it.

Btw just yesterday i read a story about substitute who get together withbwhite moonlight and they ditched the scumbag male lead and did not forgive anyone who wronged them. And the story was not even that good but it was like a fresh air among all these "forgive the douchebag" stories

well, honestly, this content is made by an adult for adults, so someone young shouldn't be here anyway. but they are, but just like you said, you grow out of it and see that it wasn't normal. even so, i think the internet nowadays is very clear that this type of stories are not to be romanticized, and there are many warnings, tags and comments to remind you that this is purely fiction and it's not to be taken as a reality.

also, BL in general has changed over the years, and there is more variety with having green flags nowadays! there has been a lot of good stories these past few years with the things you just described; it's just a matter to find what you like with the tags and recommendations lists. Some people like content like this, others don't, and that is okay, it's not for everyone.

Yeah, but like i said this trope is not specific to bl only. I get some ads in my vk feed for new novels sometimes and the male archetype is terrible there too. Like in 90% of them. This problem is not limited to bl manga/manhwa/manhua and 18+ content. So you still have to search for "good story"x"good art"(if it is a comics)x"nice characters"x"story i personally like", most of them do not fit the requirements range.
