I don't think Diana ever 'loved' Helios, she simply chose him because he had the higher status. Marrying him would give her the life she felt she deserved.
She had no rational idea about what she was choosing, she only wanted to praise and adoration. She did nothing of substance with her role really, and she could have done a lot. Even if she wanted to do nothing she could have lived quietly, but her vanity stopped her. Being given a gift from this world's Goddess really went to her head.
