On one hand I do understand the Kael hate, obviusly you do not want a stupid woman to rule your kingdom, and for that Diana should be dethroned. Not for Kael, but for the whole kingdom, because after all the people of the kingdom didn't do wrong.
On the other hand I totaly get why he doesn't want it, at one point if you are traumatized you grow tired of the fighting and at some point you don't want an appology at all, you just want to move on and leave that part of your life behind. You know for sure that the half assed apology is all you gonna get so at some point you just want to get ot over with and have nothing to do with the people who traumatized you, especially if you found your happiness with a new person, you want to move on and concentrate your full attention on that new life.
All in all, everyone is a flawed character, the main characters, the side characters, everyone. It all depends from angle you are looking at it.
