this is seriously so off-putting. this website contains tons of r19 stories. why do some of these kids feel the need to lecture adults on how we should be acting when consuming the content? are you kids okay? you shouldn't be out here consuming r19 in the first place and yet, here you are (which is fine) but you don't get to point fingers at us for causing you trauma when you read toxic shit and read our thoughts about it because you read it *knowing* it's not something you should consume. it's not these authors' fault that you wanted to read smut. no one's forcing you to. stay out of spaces that discuss toxic topics. there's not subliminal messaging in these stories because we can discern fiction from reality. this is such a tired topic and i can't believe this had to be said in the big year of 2025.

EVERY piece of media is open to critique, why should yaoi be an exception? people dont complain about dark topics being present, they complain about how they're portrayed, and often fetishised and normalised in works. only after constant criticism can media evolve. u say stay out of spaces that discuss toxic topics, but discussion includes criticism of how things are handled, and not just positive things. its okay to be critical of certain plot points, voice them out, and yet still enjoy the rest of the work. and its okay to dislike someone else's opinion, disagree even, and not feel like they shouldn't have voiced it out in the first place. hope i made sense.
Samee.. im so tired of people leaving "critique" when they clearly only read the beginning of the story. Like, if you haven't read the entire chapter don't leave a critique. Judging a story based only on the beginning is unfair and unhelpful. Ive read well written stories with excellent character development that judged unfairly by people who cant be critical enough with what they read.I mean if from you gave your personal opinion on the story is fine but telling others who like those stories degregating words to define them is just shitty.

i do have a backbone. i've always been a dldr type of person when it comes to fiction. you can have your opinions and you're free to voice your criticism on the story - i've done that myself - but that's not the issue here. it starts to get weird when people are getting called "whores" and "retarded" for saying toxic stories should exist. where they attribute the cause of their trauma because they read toxic stories instead of blaming the perpetrators. that i think is the issue. you don't get to prance around here and start criticizing the moral compass of adults when we all know it's just fiction.
i'm not talking about critiquing stories. i'm all for that. i think it's nice to have discussions about that and discuss how authors could've approached this and that in the plot. all gucci. the issue for me lies in the fact that some of these people think they're on a moral high ground for not liking toxic stories. it's not discussion anymore when these people are calling readers "rapists", "groomers", "whores", "retarded", and whatever negative perceptions they have towards the readers. those words are being thrown around like they don't have any weight to them. it's scary to think that the word "pedophile" has been thrown around to accuse people when organizations against csam have been trying to educate us why those terms can't and should be used with caution. these people are just so performative that it irks me.

i defend fiction as just being fiction because it's important to have ethical and emotional compartmentalization when dealing with fiction. i know how important fiction is as an outlet to explore explore uncomfortable, taboo, or morally gray situations safely. this doesn't mean to ignore harmful messaging but it does mean allowing space for exploration in fiction without immediately jumping to moral condemnation. if you can't accept that, there's nothing i can do. mind you, you were the ones calling people retarded if they disagreed with your opinion.
