I regret not immediately commenting my thoughts on this after reading this.
I read this 3 days ago and I gotta say it was a good experience from what I remember, the writing was really good, I feel like I could somehow relate or more like understand the characters and their motives.

It was kinda satisfying to see the situation go full circle
From them during highschool
Matsuda hating on Kamiko
Kamiko being curious about Matsuda
And Matsuda's crush in the middle of it all

When they all got reunited in the last chapters it was surreal lol

Kamiko tho he's got a bit of a cocky character, he wanted to prove he was the best for Matsuda, to the point of asking the past crush to do Matsuda was like okay bro you got it

I can see it as him trying to mark matsuda in a way tho, by being overly open about it, especially when they were talking (past crush and Kamiko) it was his way of saying "I have *that* kind of relationship with Matsuda"

Side notes
There's this sense of loneliness etched between the two of them

With uncertainty of whether he's only staying just because he is "lonely" so that he could "fix" him

Its because of that that Matsuda thinks he might leave just like how he did to all of those girls once they became happy
And so as to not get hurt, he pushes him away by telling him to leave soon

But they both know he wont leave
He wasn't just a guest anymore

It was nice to see him help out in detective work, and the fact that he's actually got sharp and quick thinking skills sometimes noticing things first than mc.

I have no problem with age gaps. I eat that shit up. The problem comes when a guy in his mid 20’s fall in love with a 16 year old kid. That’s normalizing some ped******. Story wise is still alright tho. read this bc of the main story

I'll be honest: age gaps are common themes of "nostalgic romance" -- it's a common theme in literature, and it's especially a common theme in BL, a genre centered in secrecy and acceptance and "forbidden" romance, or at least forbidden at the time.

For me, it's not a big deal as long as the younger party wasn't exploited, and there's genuine interest and affection coming from them without coercion or brainwashing coming from the older party.

The start of their romance and first time of their sex was consensual in my eyes, regardless whether Mori was morally correct or not (he wasn't). Their second sex in their adulthood was tense, and it was bordering dubcon, but Tora was sober and has the strength to fight him for real, as seen in him hitting Tetsuya in the hallway before the sex scene. Tetsuya was saying Tora has to fight him for real and not hold back in punching him if he really didn't want to accept Tetsuya.

Questionable and it's probably coercion or smth of the like, but this kind rough yes or no communication is so freaking common in mangas made in the 2010s especially when they involve macho men. Tora and Tetsuya are former gangsters, plus Tora's a tsundere, so rough communication is not unexpected? What's important is the aftermath.

The aftermath of their 2nd sex showed them to be at peace and Tora didn't show signs of unhappiness or trauma.

After that, Tetsuya didn't force himself on Tora.

Age gap confirmed in latest update of the prequel younger brother couple. There’s a 10 years time skip.
Tora is 7 years younger than Tetsuya. In the extra Tora is 35 living with 42 yo Tetsuya, and they’ve been living together for 7 years.
Their first time was when Tora was 16, and Tetsuya was 23. I’m glad it didn’t lead to a relationship right then and there, and they re-encountered and got together later when both were adults.

For anyone confused let me clear this up once and for all. In chapter 1 p.13, the person spoken to when one of the gang members says "yer 18 yerself" is not Mori. It's not clear who it is but they respond that they're working, and Mori hid the fact that he works from everyone except 2 people (as evidenced by ch.3 pages 4-5). An argument could be made that it's a different job, but ch.4, p.3 sounds pretty conclusive to me. He says that he was a "little younger" than 25 at the time so he must've been 24/23, a far cry from 19 if you ask me. Realistically, what 18 year old is leading a gang like that?

On the question of whether this constitutes grooming or not, how do you guys define grooming? It's any act done to gain a child's trust for the purpose of sleeping with said child. He showed Tora preferential treatment for a whole year. Grooming is often depicted as relentless, but in reality it's very covert and insidious. Some small things you'd never pay attention to can be constituted as grooming, especially acts of kindness. As for whether he was planning on sleeping with him from the start or not I don't think that matters. He did it and it wasn't a heat of the moment thing. He took his sweet time buying condoms and all. So what makes his actions different from grooming? Is it intent? What more could he have done to concretely turn this into grooming?

I understand wanting to enjoy this manga, but please don't try denying the facts. Feel free to create your own headcanon by changing their ages, but I'm sure the mangaka intended the story to be this way. I say that because there's precedent (see Nirameba Koi vol.1, ch.6). I enjoy a few things about this manga, especially the biker gang concept, but let's be honest with ourselves. I respect the people who admit they change the details in their minds more than those frantically trying to deny the facts.

I ran to comments to brag how good was the story to realize idk how but I red the v2 without reading the v1 and facing people being confused about Tora's age so I go back and red the first volume and here you go guys hope this help :

-Tora met the gang in first days of when he entered high school (15-16 yo)

- he joined the gang 1 year after he met the gang after the first time after he ride Mori's backseat at 2nd year of high school (16-17)

- the fight,riding again at the backseat and s*x (16-17 )

- Leaving Mori (16-17)

- met again 4 year later (20-21)

-Work at Mori's shop (20-21)

-Tori said 6 month later is shop's 5th anniversary

- Mori asked Tora's age (he said 25)

- Mori said so 6 month later at when anniversary arrives it became 10 years since the first time we met

- when they did it Tora was 17 probably or near it(bc we don't know 6 month later how old Tori will be still 25 yo or he turns 26 can't be sure if he was 16 or 17)

- the guy that is saying I'm 18 but working I think he is the blonde guy that said to Tora that he was sleeping at class too and how much red score Tora got

-Mori said I was the same age as you right now (Tora 25) but then he said no I was even younger so he surely was 20 above

- bc he said I tought of myself as an adult read the next 2:

- in Japan 20 yo is the age of becoming a complete adult

- but also 18 is the legal age for buying house marrige driving license and so on

-my guess they did it at 16-23 or 17-24
or 17-22.23

And for people who are disappointed about the age gap it's a JAPANESE MANGA you reading how are you not prepared?! In Japan high schoolers dating uni students it happenes and it is normal there. It's not morally ok but different countries different moralites. it's in their culture as many other countries like mine(I live in Iran) It's Fcked up it's bad but it's happening .like in my country nothing I say nothing as the concept of grooming exist they just say it's bad that a like 26 27 years old marry a 16 17 so they get engage and then wait for girls to turn 18 so they can get marry. but teenagers in age of between 15 to 17 they dating 22 23 years Olds or in some case like Mori and Tora. it's so sad and disappointing but yeah it's happening Just want to say next time be more careful and have a safe read when you reading a Japanese Manga or content

so many of the comments here are completely insane. i truly do wish life was as simple as some of you seem to see it, but for your sakes, i hope none of you are ever put in the position hyeonji and haebom would have been in because i know me and my mother had been and i know what it's like to stew in such bottomless grief. watching a family member waste away in both body and mind didn't do anything but leave my mother in a gaping financial hole and leave the both of us with long lasting trauma.

should hyeonji have still been given a chance to have a say? perhaps. but let's not sit here and pretend like haebom's father is some awful and evil person for not wanting to force someone he loved to watch him suffer and wither while she was helpless to do anything for him. he left without a word because he knew she would have followed him otherwise, regardless of what he said. a 40 year battle to full recovery is not a miniscule amount of time spent, no matter who you are, and the struggle would have been the same with or without hyeonji and haebom there, yet the misery would have been tripled if they had been present. no one has to like it, and even haebom's father is still saddled with immense guilt, but he made a decision many people would have and currently do make to spare the people they love of suffering any further than strictly necessary. that's not cruelty; that's kindness.

the way udou's character is so flawed, and the way he is so sensible much more than any other manga characters i've encountered
the way he loves so much but doesn't allow himself to be happy is heartbreaking to me
and the fact that when he finally allows himself some love and happiness he encounters difficulties hurts me
and the way he is so well written and realistic too
like all of his fears and insecurities are completely valid
just reading this and seeing udou being taking care of and loved by kiyotaka cleanses my soul and appeases me

Cause nothing is wrong with rereading this masterpiece every now and then

Just like other nishida higashi's stories, i like it but i really wish she hadn't included rape... like seriously i don't understand why she has to include rape/dubcon in most of her works. Like ace no kyujitsu, for example, it could have been loads better without the unnecessary dubcon at the beginning. Same with division :/
