To further elaborate, metaphorically, I see “Hikaru” as a queer teen who is somewhat open about his queerness. He understands(?) why homosexuality is wrong and he’s seen how people respond to it, yet he can’t fully control how he feels even if he’s aware his feelings are capable or have already hurt the person he likes. Yoshiki is closeted— fearful and anxious of what fully accepting homosexuality will do to his living circumstances, and Asako ( as shown in latest chp ) is still unable to fully comprehend the concept of queerness, despite that she’s still willing to tell Yoshiki to be more open about who he is even if that leads to him being seen as a demon or whatnot.
But what about Kurebayashi? Is she supposed to represent a woman who’s dealt with someone who was homosexual in her family before and has seen what cons came with it but despite that is trying to help others? But even then I’m confused with my own process of thinking.. any thoughts?( ̄へ ̄)

if the spiritual impurities in the story can be translated to "queerness" then wouldn't kurebayashi be similar to yoshiki in the sense that she is also 'closeted' but from a previous, way harsher generation. she's dealt with the ramifications for homophobia and knows the consequences of embracing it in a society that's hostile to it, and because of her experiences she urges the younger generation like yoshiki, who is still stuggling, to pursue a 'normal life' (staying in the closet) not to get mixed with hikaru any further (embracing his sexuality, coming out) because it did not go well for her when she was going through the same
i think trying to translate every single thing in the story to this queerness metaphor is kind of tricky since some things are literally just about the actual spiritual monsters subplot (like how do you make a metaphor out of the shape of the map or the "holes" they're closing) but its still interesting to think about

Yeah, that’s a nice way to think about it. Thanks for responding. (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
I agree trying to translate every little thing in the story is definitely tricky and some things are just meant to be taken in a literal sense, I still enjoy looking at certain things and characters in the chapters to see if there are any allegories I’m able to find as well as understand.

yoshikis survivors guilt is probably batshit crazy omg last two pages are killing me I don’t know what hurts more.. ‘Hikaru’ being genuinely happy to see Yoshiki but unaware of what he just did, or Yoshiki’s horrified reaction to it all.
Honestly feels like ‘Hikaru’ is gonna end up dying by the end of the series especially with the mom of the girl as a witness who will probably report what just went down, but before that can we please get yoshikaru kiss

junghwi deserved sm better omg what.. why did mc suddenly start developing feelings for his brother which he had built up anger towards for years just because he daydreamed about fucking him a few times? Is that really all it took for him to fall for someone he despised a couple chapters ago? and woojin never confessed what he did to junghwi and the other guy so mc will just live on believing the guy who treated him amazing just ended up cheating on him uggh.. hate the disposal side love interest who’s obviously the better option trope in yaoi

It wasn't sudden ss the story unfolded, he remembered that his brother always wanted him, always liked him.
He didn't want to be better than him at first, he just wanted to follow in his older brother's footsteps.
This gradually got into MC's head, until he finally started to like his brother.
Of course, this doesn't justify his brother's horrible behavior, but if you're reading this story, you certainly weren't looking for a green flag.
Let's not be hypocrites; we all know what we're getting ourselves into.

Yeah, I get it. I knew what I was reading and I was aware of who obviously was going to be endgame who was going to end up being a plot device for the main pairing. I just wanted to vent out my frustrations. ( ̄へ ̄)
Seeing it in that lens definitely feels a little less.. sudden.. but in the beginning it felt as though mc had that one daydream where they fucked and then next chapter he started to become all flustered and seeing him in a new light. It was in the later chapters that’s he began looking back on their childhood and his brothers past behaviours and then started feel even more fluffy about him iirc..
Please correct me if I’m totally off though, I read this at like 3 in the morning yesterday and I’m having a hard time remembering certain scenes
