I think both crash out is valid but Hayden should be the one to have more grace in that instance.. Although he fuced up, Brett is still the one who holds the key to the relationship. Unless he let his guard down, there is so much Hayden can do to salvage them. Two person need to work on it or it's not even a relationship
Brett is such a self destructive person that it hurts to love him. I know it's hard for him too.. so I hope Hayden really push down that wall he has and take the lead until they both can heal
