Its just for florentia’s goals. Currently perez is aiming for emperor. With Astana’s “assassination” against the current emperor perez is almost guaranteed his postion as crown prince. If he is crown princess then florentia as his “betrothed” would be labeled crowned princess. Florentia can’t aim for head of the lombardi house if she is crown princess. Its a law made in place. For the sake of florentia’s goals Perez is proposing a contract marriage so both perez’s reputation is linked with florentia. When he is second prince riding off florentia as this politically genius girl raises his status and then he gains support for his position to the throne. The current plan is to be perez stable enough in his postion (basically confirm him as crown prince) then they annul their contract marriage so florentia along with one being “arranged marriage” with perez she can use that position to gain support to be head of lombardi along with proving herself as worthy. Its a bunch of politics smushed into one. But if anyone finds out their love is real while both of their positions are unstable people like the current empress can use it to her advantage and make some sort of plan to ruin them. Its all a nicely made web to trap the empress and the current crown prince to make perez king and florentia head of lombardi
