I just finished Frankenstein and reading this is certainly a ride, the way the author contrasts Henry Clerval with this rendition making him more cynical compared to Frankenstein really adds to the emotional distress Victor feels.
In the original book, Henry is supposed to be the life to Victor, caring for him in every possible context even when he's ill, I like how they use Heart to express that as it makes you think, did Henry truly like Victor despite him seemingly distant with him?
I honestly could care less about Dick but he's still an amazing character who does embrace the ideas of Victor's fear of being like the cynical Henry, to be something that he'd had so much so despised of becoming simply because he was hurt by it, he can't live with the idea of being like the man he had desperately hated inside. Which is why he's such a core character and couldn't be removed
Head contains the cold and collective as well as the controlling aspect of Henry. It's the one leverage he has over Victor, it's the weakness Victor has, being his appearance. Most of the reason he gives into what Head does is because he looks exactly like Henry, which represents the shallowness behind Victor and how he views his interpretations of everything is correct, which is directly related to how he's extremely boastful about his achievements as he believes he himself is god. I'd still like to know the kind of connection him and Victor have for him to be able to read his mind.
Last, but not least, Heart, this is the most accurate version of the creature within this book. He's constantly being shown hostility by Victor and is often feared by him too. Heart definitely wants to feel connection with Victor, but is rejected because he's hideous or looks the least bit like Henry. The fact he cares so much about Victor is because he has Henry's heart, which begs the question, why was Henry so cold towards Victor, there is an idea that he is simply hungry with the desire of power, but he still cares for Victor, or he has a sense of romanticism to him which makes him want Victor to understand, but as he's so stubborn and would most likely not admit it, Henry had to turn towards a cold method to ensure he has control over him. In a way he's Lucifer, asking for more and more till it hit him and divided him into three.
There's a lot more to go over with this rendition for sure, but personally I want to see the growth between Heart and Victor.
I feel like Henry and Victor both fill the role as Dr. Frankenstein, the mad scientist archetype. Based on the origin story, Victor's kinda "innocence", being adopted, and falling for his adopted brother lines up with Elizabeth's story. Henry actually did some dark experiments before Victor I think - in life he was NOT like MS's Henry, he was Dr. Frankenstein. After Henry died, Victor revives him so now he's the sole Dr. Frankenstein. Henry became the monster but in 3 aspects: the cold and robotic monster (Head), the monster who wanted to be loved by his creator (Heart), and the "lustful" monster who desired a partner (Dick) - cuz remember how the monster used to stalk Elizabeth and wanted a bride? And see how it lines up still for Victor to be Elizabeth?
As Henry the MS character, the 3 corpses represent the intellect and ambition of Henry (Head), his inocent love and companionship (Heart), and the balancing figure/foil to Victor (Dick). Based on all that, I think Victor might represent both Elizabeth and Dr. Frankenstein. Henry was Dr. Frakenstein and *now* represents MS's Henry and the monster. This has been really fascinating. Also Henry's specific kind of cold and calculating Dr. Frankenstein reminds me of David from Prometheus, who I love very much as a villain (づ￣ ³￣)づ
