TBH it's the way that in some panels ash has like the kinda of background that would be seen when a character is like breaking down ( the black background with a purple streak after Ash is like oh so you like spanking) like the vibes don't seem light hearted
Yes there is a safe word but we also know how Karlyle always goes along with what Ash wants because he doesn't want to disappoint him and here he's aware he's getting punished for breaking their promise of communication
Also the amount of times he says "no" + like I said the background really give off slight non con vibes to the reader. ( At least to me it does)
Overall they both agreed to the play it's just Lyle is more softer and tends to be more embarrassed when exposed and Lyle doesn't stop after 3 consecutive "no"s
