There's a lot of ML groveling in this, but maybe its moving too fast...I just don't feel like he's been sorry enough!
ML imprisons, tortures, and gives drugs to the MC after thinking MC betrayed him based on vibes alone. And he's trying to make up for it, but since MC is one of those "too good for this world types" and also because this world HATES MC, it feels like he lets the ML get away with it to feel better about all the other shit happening to him.
Its not over, but MC deserves better!
