So a lot of abusers play ‘God’ in their victims lives which almost becomes idolatry to the victim since they numb themselves to the unhealthy treatment. Mincheol feeds on this in Haesoo’s life. He wants to be her everything. Since essentially he views her as having nothing but him, and being unable to have anything but him in her life, he should be worshiped by her. Thats why, his thoughts are the way they are, and he has this sentiment about her being grateful for his presence despite him having abandoned her, cause she’s not allowed to leave him (in a way her faith) behind. Since Haesoo’s adult life has been built around him, shes almost caged herself inside with him, and he cannot fathom the thought of her leaving him no matter what trauma he puts her through because Mincheol believes that she is his property, not his wife, but his property. He cannot accept reality and will try to rationalise things that don’t make sense, until he really sees that shes gone, and the power he once held over her is gone. Thats why I believe he put the debt in her name, to tie her into him, and married her to tie her into him. I believe mincheol does love her, but also because he unconsciously wanted to find someone in a worse situation then himself, to leech off, and go through life knowing that no matter what he does she won’t leave, because he’s tamed her with his false facade & promises
