I believe that's the point. It is to drive the point home that no one willingly marries an abuser, they marry someone they thought they knew. That's the parallel, the author is trying to draw. It's a bit disturbing but it is what it is. You see that Minchoel wasn't an abuser from the start, but you do see the stark contrast of how Na Haesoo made him feel and how Yoon Ari makes him feel.
He felt the stench of poverty all over him whenever he was Haesoo, because that's all they had known. Comes Yoon Ari who's sympathetic towards him and still chooses to be with him despite his inadequateness. He didn't start out as a shitty person but he did become one.
That's where the parallel is. Na Haesoo, while being an emotionally bruised person just as much as Minchoel, tries to be a decent person.
Minchoel, on the other hand, has become a typical Korean Male who loooooooves to blame women for his own inadequacy.
He is not hard to hate, he is making you see, that anyone can change to be a shitty person if there is enough temptation.
