I think swallow tail is from the butterfly clan, his eyes are the same color as the clan members and maybe the gate opened at the offering of a butterfly clan member's blood, that's why he says "it still works" maybe he was banished

idk if you've read the latest chapter but he confirms he came from the butterflies and was "discarded" at some point, leading to his escape. now the real question here is that the butterfly sect only accepts women... perhaps some gender fuckery going on
