For those confused, (I forgot names so just using their professions) writers boss knows about the 'shinigami' and how everyone he writes about/uses as his muse dies. He threatened the photographers career if writer didn't write his next script about himself. He pushed photographer away to protect him because 1, he loves him and 2, he pushed photographer away so that he could move on and find love elsewhere so he wouldn't either suffer from his death, or blame himself.
The whorehouse was illegal and got closed down on the day he broke up with photographer so that also compounded his misery. Photographer thinks that writer just wants to die, and was probably gonna do a lovers murder-suicide so they could go together because he can't live if writer dies.
