I think as sion doesn't like war he really want to avoid it but it has come to this because of that he cried. At the end, the guy said that you don't have to feel guilty for the war ( he knew that Sion feel guilty about the war) and just accept glory if they win but Sion said that, as the one who announce the war, he won't hide anymore and take responsibility for the war too.
For the countess Assar, I don't really understand her role, like she is planning for something big but the story didn't really show the plan. Even in the previous life the guy didn't really follow her instructions to show off Sion's stigmata to the public and make him the holy king so we can't really see where her plan will go.
Am I correct in that we are shown a part of her plans via Sion's analysis in the previous chapters?
By winning the war, she can gain the part of the Mayee land that can strengthen her land's primary business & thus strengthen her power too.
By mentioning that he failed to follow her plans previously, Parvell is implying that winning the war is only the beginning of the phase 2 of her plans
