tbh i always get a bit apprehensive about ww2 era manga because of the history of japanese imperialism/colonialism and how these narratives tend to be sympathetic towards that (japan as a nation refuses to acknowledge their wrongs). however, this particular one took things with a lot of nuance and was able to humanize the former imperial and american soldiers while acknowledging the wrongs both sides have done. the chemistry was also really good- this mangaka knocked it out of the park.
