I think he's depressed, those are the symptoms: he doesn't eat, he doesn't want to socialize, he pushes away his loved ones, he stays in a dark room... the fact that he says he doesn't want to die and that he thinks about what he'd like to do is positive, at least he is not lettting himself go completely...
