The whole of Aqua's character, his mindset, this ending isn't unexpected. In fact, I knew it would happen one way or another, because Aqua himself wouldn't have it any other way. Aqua hunted Kamiki, knowing full well that if he had to, he would give his life to fulfill his revenge.
I'm not surprised or upset at all, no matter what anyone else says, I love this ending.
