Sorry, don't have any recs, just a curiosity, since I never saw or read Blue Lock but heard of it and I'm kinda interested in watching the anime, but not because of the sports aspect if it's not a sports manga, then what would you say it is?

It is actually a sports manga haha. The art is amazing, in my opinion it started out great! I loved how football was depicted through the story but somehow down the line I lost interest because of how absurd it became.
I love sports genre because Mcs have hardwork and talent etc...it becomes absurd when there's out of logic and supernatural additions...that was also why i didnt enjoy kuroko no basket as much.
Basket ball, football etc should be portrayed in its true gritty form.

Many viewers share my opinion in that those who watch or read blue lock dont know football even after reading/watching it. So yeah i lost interest.
But that shouldnt stop you from reading it and seeing for yourself, you might enjoy it there are other aspects that are really good, just not the exact thing im looking for in a sports manga.

My personal rec to you would be to read haikyuu. Nothing has topped it so far in the sports genre!
