i’m in uni and during lunch breaks i sometimes like to read manhwa, manga or wtv on my ipad while eating. today some guy in my class i barely know approached me, glanced at my screen and (kind of rudely) asked if i wasn’t too old to read that kind of stuff (i’m 20).
i was a little taken aback. i mean, at the end of the day, it’s just another form of media like tv shows, movies, books, anime, etc. i don’t see why it should be “for kids only,” especially since there are genres like josei or seinen that target young adults, and a lot of content is nsfw.
not sure if he was mocking me or what, but it stuck with me. i know plenty of people older than me who enjoy shounen or other “younger” series but it still made me think that maybe im weird.
ive been reading manhwa/manga since i was 15 i don't see why i should stop now. and lots of my other hobbies are also considered childish like watching anime or playing video games.
so what do u all think?
Don’t mind him. Probably thinks animation is only for kids too. You’re right, video games, manga, comics etc. is a medium with varying genre and age demographics, he sounds like he has a narrow view on the medium and hobbies in general. I’m 24, I haven’t encountered anyone round my age belittle me for my hobbies before, since everyone has their own niches nowadays with the internet around. If he’s gonna continue to have that attitude, especially in your 20s? people prob won’t tolerate it.
I don’t think there is an age too old. It’s only the people that aren’t well versed in Manhwa or Manga that would say stuff like it’s for children. Some of the mangas or manhwas I’ve read have messed with my emotions so bad or are just pure 18+ themes, content and illustrations. I KNOW about these things but someone who don’t read them ain’t gonna have a clue about them. That’s why they are more ignorant about them. But I do think that slowly manga and manhwas are becoming more popular. I saw a tiktok the other day of some motorcyclist was reading a manhwa at a red light and it got 2 million likes… INSANE.. Anyways, sometimes the people who make fun of you for reading it, will years later go crazy over the same stuff you’ve read when it comes out as an anime. I love the sweet satisfaction of telling them “oh yeah I already finished that a long time ago ヾ(❀╹◡╹)=凸
Omg yes totally agree!!! I had read a novel that was eventually made into a manhwa and then read that back when it first came out and it wasn't that popular yet. Had finished it and then it started to become popular, people made petitions to have it made into an anime (which of course I signed) and then my brother in law asked me if I'd heard of the anime and I felt the sweet satisfaction of telling him that I had already read both the manhwa that the anime was based on AND the novel that both the anime and the manhwa was based on 5x over. I had loved the story a lot lolol. Anime isn't finished but I haven't watched it yet cause I'm letting it marinate~
— manhwa
— historical, mystery, thriller, mpreg
— european setting
— uke has black hair, seme is blonde
plot (as far as i remember):
uke is a royal guard (?) investigating a serial killer case in the capital. in the first chapter i remember, he's training, passes out, and when he wakes up, the doctor tells him he's pregnant. he got pregnant months ago at a ball with a masked man, so he doesn't know the father. later he attends another ball, meets the blonde guy, and they grow closer.
while he's trying to figure out the father and hide his pregnancy, there's this serial killer subplot going on that i mentioned earlier.
+ another detail i randomly remembered:
killer only targets victims who look like the mc so pale skin & short black hair.
unfortunately i don't remember the title :( i loved this story so much and i would do anything to read it again so if anyone could help that'd be awesome !!
tyyy
basically what the title says. im not in a relationship yet but ive been going on a few dates with this guy and i have a feeling hes going to ask me out soon. how do yall feel about this? should you let your partner know? or is it only right that i stop reading explicit stuff?
well i'd say you better keep it a secret from him for a while, after you deem that he's trustworthy enough then do tell him. though i agree with what the person above me commented, if he doesn't respect ur preferences and tastes he def ain't a keeper, ofc this is all in my opinion only, in the end it's all up to you ( ̄へ ̄)
Well smthn like this is extremely hidden and personal, maybe he won't judge but he may feel weird that u brought it up out of nowhere or there was no need to tell it to him. imagine a reverse scenario, will it not be weird for a guy to suddenly tell a girl he likes that he watches porn?
But see to ur own circumstance, maybe it's complicated in a way we don't know
i hope it helps but I agree that you should just casually bring it up and as early as possible too if it scares you this much! My partner never judged me for it and treated it so casually, it was like we were talking about an action genre lol. If you're scared of the possibility of it being spread around, just ask him about the topic like "Do you read BLs?" "What do you think about BLs?" If he does have a rather strong and negative opinion about it then he's not worth it.
short sneak peek convo about it with my partner:
"Did I told you already that I read BLs?"
"No but I expected it."
That was literally it lol.
I straight away tell them im into bL like.....(internally...I don't care because I'm like "I don't mind going seperate ways just because you don't like me now that you now knw I read yaoi so please here's the door to go outta my life because if you don't like me reading it then I have no space for you in my life because you can't accept me as a person who has interest in reading or watching yaoi the I don't have space for you in my life")
Gosh this is how I am so I knw who are good ones and who are fake ones
