He says he has no purpose without Dajeong, but that was only the case AFTER he gave up on Hyuk.
I dont think the author meant it, but it feels implied that Dajeong is the 2nd choice and then authorbtries to justify otherwise.
1. At first, supposedly, ML's whole life purpose was about Dajeong (before they met again as adult)
2. Then Dajeong comes back into his life after so many years, and Dajeong wants him. But now he dont care at all because he wants Hyeok more than anything. It doesnt matter anymore that he has been preparing for years for Dajeong, because NOW he found Hyeok.
3. Then he give up on Hyeok so back to Dajeong. Oh but Dajeont left, so depression.
