Why is older uke x younger seme not seen as problematic? Especially with some stories that have uke raising their younger semes or being involved with seme when the seme was very young to then becoming romantically involved with them later on.
As well as other stories that portray the younger seme as more competent, mature - beyond their age -, and or adjusted well in life which is either contrasted by uke or uke isn't up to par to the same level. I feel like these stories infantilise uke while also adultifying the younger seme who through their age would obviously have to still be immature to some degree especially compared to the Uke.
I don't know, although my major gripe with this dynamic though is the adultification of the younger seme. I mostly ask this because there's always concerns being vocalized about older seme x younger uke especially towards the younger individual, but not that much for older uke x younger seme dynamic. Is this is a valid reason of concern though?
I personally don’t care about age gaps and stuff in romance as long as no feelings or actions were happening to someone as a minor. Even in cases where the older “raised” them. Which is weird, but I don’t think it automatically means grooming or pedophilia if again, the older didn’t feel/think/do anything towards the younger as a minor.
For maturing the younger party and making the older immature, I believe maturity in adults varies widely. Yes, generally younger people seem to be more immature or simply don’t know as much about life because of the lack of experience. And they have more vibrant and energetic views/personalities. But that doesn’t automatically mean immature, childish, lack of ability to do certain things. And there are cases where there are young adults that are very mature. Just like how on the flip side, there are older adults who still think and act like kids. So, maturity is just on a scale, but as long as two people click and love each other as adults I don’t care much.
About the difference with age gaps depending on who is younger, I have seen this double standard with young ML and old MC. Or simple personality differential. People like crybaby tops who are innocent or clingy and whiny, but then complain about the same thing with bottoms. People say the older ML is so creepy because they’re dating a very young/childish MC or call them pet names, but love it when the roles are reversed. Not sure why to be honest.
Maybe it’s heteronormativity? They view the bottom as a woman, therefore are more forgiving? Or because it’s less likely for these types of relationships to be where the bottom is older and such, so they like it more? Perhaps it’s like the role reversal and “oppressed becomes the oppressor” type situations? I don’t know
As long as the older one is not into the younger one when they were a minor then I’m good. It’s not like they were intentionally grooming the top. If you know heavens official blessing, some fans have even called Xie Lian a groomer even though he is not that at all
Any BL where the cool/charismatic/funny side character gets their own lover but it's a new character that is introduced later on, not where it's another established side character that the cool/funny side character gets paired up with. And for the new character that gets introduced, they'd have an attitude or is grumpy or are mysterious, or even better they get introduced as an annoying antogonist/not annoying antagonist that gets entangled with the funny/charismatic side character and then those two become their own little lovebirds duo. The funny/charismatic side character being the top.
I'm not sure if this is very specific or if there's a better way to describe what I'm asking for. I also feel like I'm just describing He Tian x Mo Guanshan. Though, I'm mostly looking for this because I always find myself really interested in the funny/charismatic side character in a story and wanting to see them get their own lover with pretty much everything I listed in the first paragraph, any recs? I feel like another story that kind of matches what I'm looking for is Brothersong by TJ Klune, with Carter x Gavin from there, but If this is too specific or too lame of a trope for a good amount of stories to have or use, I guess I'll reread He Tian and Mo Guanshan's story and Brothersong. ╥﹏╥
