The anime “ Yatagarasu : The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master” is very good. if you don’t mind, it has a fantasy historical setting with inspiration from the inner court culture of imperial China (and sometimes Heian-era Japan). It’s kinda like apothecary diaries in that way. Great female mc.
If you don’t mind 2000s art, the anime “ Story of Saiunkoku,” is directly modelled after Tang–Ming dynasty China. It has all the things from inner court politics and a headfast, politically charged and smart fmc.
the anime “ Raven of the Inner Palace ,” is more modern and is definitely more fantasy with ghosts and such, it’s a fictional world but it takes a lot of inspiration from classical Chinese imperial court structure
