It's only the start of the "relationship" (they aren't even in one yet) and do you really think someone will open up that quickly when their wife got murdered? Especially how the author portrait cadens faithfullness to his wife even after death even if he caught feelings for the esper he will surely deny it. But the esper guy is very persisten in his aproach and slowly taking down cadens Walls...not every story can be 100% romantic from the start...that's not what this story is about and I tbh like this more slow paced romance (cause tbh galling in love instantly kinda unrealistic, not saying those stories are bad it's just nice to see smth different once in a while)
