Tbh the duke at some nerve to come here and see the poor conditions they BOTH lived in and accuse her of being a bad guardian. Like his brother was the one that put this family in such a bad situation. They were living in poverty and he saw a woman that was just barely surviving and decided to act all high and mighty with his money. Why didn't he come earlier ? Men got nothing if not the audacity.
Like she was sacrifying herself for a kid that isn't her and being scorned away by everyone. She was emotionally neglectful but you could understand why, she was spreading herself so thin to keep them both afloat.
