After seeing a couple commenters also saying this, I’d also like to summarize my two cents about why people have a problem with this series in a whole comment and not just replies:
No, people dont have a problem with this manhwa because of the ‘’dark themes’’. The problem is that the author has a serious problem with adding an overload of graphic and (in the pearl boy original story) TORTUROUS rape scenes every few chapters to the point that it seems almost fetishy.
Yes, these series might be about organized crime, sex trafficking etc., but is the storytelling even taking place atp? Are rape scenes the way we get told the story? Please lets use our brains for a second. Most of these did absolutely nothing to add to the plot (obviously lol) and to act as if this is NECESSARY to see in the context and setting of the series is absolutely insane. Theres plenty series that tackle organized crime and sex trafficking that DONT do this !SO GRAPHICALLY AND OFTEN! and I cannot stress this enough.
In the case of og pearl boy there was so much unnecessary violent rape to the point that the original plot almost got lost in the process. In this side story we couldnt even go on for 4 chapters without drugging, kidnapping and SA. Another 4 chapters later the roles are reversed and we see more SA and also rape.
Stop excusing mediocre writing and borderline weird obsession with sexual violence of this mf author. I feel these series get overhyped because of the artstyle and everything else is overlooked to the point of seeing it as a norm to constantly get fed shitty manhwa and then question why people are even complaining since ‘every other series does it too’
So…the author still cannot write and pushes out rape/SA/drug scenes within the span of 4 chapters instead
Minimizing the entire story to just TJ is insanity. Some of you viciously live through Ian and get mad when he chooses peace over misery because that means you wont get to see TJ anymore ((: It’s like Ian doesn’t register as a character for some of you and you ultimately miss the entire point of the story which is MOVING ON. It shows that most of you aren’t reading for the plot, or just reading in general
All you guys know is to yap about their chemistry how about you talk about the fact that TJ wouldn’t let Ian pursue a normal life even after seeing how badly he is struggling to keep up with that environment? And how he bound him down with debt? And how he stopped Ian from pursuing his hobby? And how he made Ian feel indebted to him through guilt? Is that love or PERCHANCE unhealthy obsession
