Yes, he can’t help but want Brian back and see him in Ian, but you can also see he’s trying to see and accept Ian for who he is now. He’s distancing himself from Ian to respect his choices.
Do you guys have any idea how difficult that is? Imagine one of your family member got amnesia, wouldn’t you wanna be close to them and speak about the past to help them remember, get them back quickly, instead of letting it go and accepting the new person they’re becoming without the memories? (If that’s their wish)
