They thought that Perry wasn’t related to them so they adopted a child with no blood relation to merry her so that Perry can be their daughter in law and be the princess of the exer family once again. But as the audience we know that she’s actually their blood so if they do merry they have to dis own him or something

They probably wouldn't have to disown him. Actually adopting with the intent of marriage is a real custom that happened in history and is still done today.
Although I agree he's a weird choice.
