He knows if they actually sit down and talk, he won't be able to say no to Yeorum. His solution to that is to not give Yeorum the chance to reason with him and then there's no pressure from society. Because the pressure is bad. Even Yeorum's lesbian aunt judged the age gap and obviously that's going to be a huge blow considering the fact she's queer so she understands them MORE than everyone else...
