I think this is actually a pretty good fucked up psychological thriller. There were many twists I was NOT expecting. SPOILER!!! It’s absolutely crazy that one of them was that Fukusuke literally couldn’t get hard when Shouichi showed despair, sadness, and visceral fear towards him. He can’t stand being hated and feared by Shouichi and doesn’t want him to be so devastated. He wants Shouichi to be passionate and happy. He realised that he wanted Shouichi to genuinely want him and if it wasn’t that then it wouldn’t be anything. Also another great twist is that things couldn’t go all according to his plan because Shouichi is smarter and more understanding and much more kinder that Fukuske could have ever imagined. And ANOTHER twist which I think we could all see is that Fukusuke is STILL being a manipulative piece of shit to get Shouichi, playing on his sense of duty and his love for the job. An interesting thing is he is genuinely showing his pathetic side, both manipulatively and genuinely to Shouichi. Shouichi my beloved, please always get away from Fukusuke and be happy on your own.
Also damn, I just very recently read the Gintama doujinshi by Harada, absolutely scary and vomit inducing, I can see how those characters were working iterations over the years that built up to this story that is Color Recipe. It’s so clear but the doujinshi is so much more disturbing and there is only pure despair at the end. Harada almost kind of subverted their own story.
