Ofc the only way he’ll start caring is when he thinks Dan is possibly dead… Literally it has to be that extreme for him to start feeling even a bit of remorse like come on man, after seeing Dan so lifeless u still act like a jerk but when u think he might’ve died, that’s when u start to care?
