Only people who read this for the smut justify these "twists" as fine coz it's "only fiction", of course you don't mind coz the thing that you were after was not affected at all. And before you can say, it's just cartoons, so what? people get attached to specks on some random walls just coz it reminded them of a familiar shape or something, it's human nature to care, nothing absurd about that.

Different people have different reasons for being triggered too, some are just very sensitive when it comes to these topic, some felt betrayed by the inexplicable diversion of the character that they were rooting for, and some like me are just pissed for the sudden shift of the tone that in no way supported everything that happened throughout the story- had the author given even just 1 sensible reason why the naive ml would take that course of action, I might've still understood and justify it for the plot, say the ml did it coz he thought the mc was playing him for his body- this would make the motive sexual, so him SA'ing mc would be punishment based on what the mc was supposedly after (but in the story he only knows that the mc played him for money and for laughs), or maybe if the ml was actually an incel in disguise who's just nice because he wants something in return and when it wasn't given to him, he lashes out, sure that can be something, but again, in the story, even his standoffish side was still due to his sheltered nature, he's genuinely childish, no way could he have that malicious intent from the get go, he didn't even want to do it bareback coz he feared it would hurt the mc, and now he's suddenly thrusting into him until it bleeds? it would be more believable if he punched him to a pulp instead, coz punching someone is a common course of action when you're angry, so it could be something that he picked up and adapted.

All of these are why the backlash for this story has been strong so far, it's not simply coz there was a rape scene (although it is a big concern) it's also because the author disrespected the understanding and trust of their readers by pulling this crap at the last minute too.

I read the codename anastasia novel a very long time before manhwa was announced. To be honest, I was so close to dropping it so many times, but I did end up finishing it (+side stories) because I was hooked by spoilers my friend gave me. Yes, there is rape, and there’s a lot of… generally unacceptable stuff. If you cannot handle this kind of behavior, please, i beg of you, to stop reading. There will be more of this type of stuff. If you’re going to continue reading despite that, then that’s great too! Zhenya may seem like the biggest black flag right now (and he is, don’t get me wrong), but I’m telling you that you will adapt (?not sure if this is the correct word) to it as you continue reading. It may leave a bad taste in your mouth as it did for me, but I think that codename anastasia (the novel, especially) is very well written. You might think that rape is a terrible plot device, and it most definitely is, but the story in my opinion is very well written. It is, in fact, one of my all time favorite BL novels. If you *can* handle reading this kind of plot, then by all means, please do not drop this unless you truly hate anything about it! This isn’t a plead for you to keep reading or spoilers for the novel, just informing you that codename anastasia is absolutely worth the read if you can get through the hurdles!

I wouldn't say that enjoying a trope in fiction is the same as enjoying it irl, but rather it's the refusal to be critical of these tropes or even allow others to be critical that raises concern. Discussion and criticism is a totally healthy aspect of a community and shouldn't be demonized, and the analysis and critique of enjoyable media is all a part of media literacy.

Though I will say, that it's one thing to critique media and another to judge or condemn those who consume said media based solely on the fact that they enjoy it.
But (for example) if someone in the comments were to read the latest chapter and start "shipping" a literal infant with a grown adult (fictional or otherwise), I think that's condemnable behavior worthy of critique because it does glean insight to a concerning pattern of thought.
Being "sensitive" to troubling themes is not a bad thing and it's those who cry and complain at the sight of criticism that are actually insecure and emotionally/mentally immature

And if you see a take you disagree with, argue if you find that fulfilling or just don't engage, but don't argue and then complain about always having to argue and defend what you enjoy, because frankly, you don't have to. That's a choice you're making.

On the topic of rape in media, I would like to discuss fiction vs morality and how that line is interchangeable. I’ve been reading BL on this website for 5 years, I’ve been reading other romance manga way longer. We’ve all seen the same thing over and over. Rape is normalized in yaoi culture, it’s the truth whether you like it or not. You can say that you can tell fiction from reality but that only shows where your morals lay. Do you enjoy it? Is the normal stuff boring? Do you need something more exciting? Why is it ok in fiction for someone to be forcibly taken against their will? So you can get off?
Let me use a different perspective: gore. I love horror but do I enjoy torture gore? Of course not and most people who do don’t turn out to be the best of people. People who glorify gore in media usually end up harming someone else. People who are desensitized to gore still, say it with me now, SEE IT AS A TERRIBLE THING. This is especially the case in rape in media and why it shouldn’t be glorified. YOU might not even THINK about harming someone in that way but because it’s so normalized others think they can do the same. This is an especially sad case in BL media as women glorify it to such a disgusting extent, but let it be a woman in that place and suddenly it’s a problem.
This is especially disgusting when a child is involved. There is no separation of fiction and reality when you acknowledge what you’re reading is wrong. Do you enjoy reading child porn? Even if it’s fictional, do you find it ok? If your answer is yes then I would like to direct you to a book called Lolita, where a little girl is raped by her step father. She thought it was consensual so it must be fine bc it’s fiction, correct? You people only excuse it when it’s attractive young men/boys bc you’re perverts.
