Okay so I understand everyone is hating on the emperor right now (rightfully so cuz men ain’t sh*t) but I read the whole novel and tbh I sort of understand where he’s coming from and I wanted to just make a post defending him kind of.
First of all once you read the novel you find out he got abused by his (fake) mother and now he has PTSD, Rose pretended to be sympathetic towards him and so the emperor fell in love because he thought she was the only person who could ever show him sympathy and started idolising her.
When the sister died in the last life the emperor technically didn’t play a role in her death. Rose actually lied and said that the sister poisoned her and caused Rose to have a miscarriage so by law she was to be dethroned and then executed. After that the emperor had nightmares for days about the sister and then he found out the truth later.
I understand that our past events are not justifications for our actions as an adult and even in this new life, the emperor has done some questionable things but you guys need to understand he’s been manipulated HIS WHOLE LIFE by his mother, the people around him and now rosemond (who never even loved him). He has this messed up relationship with her and he realises later that he mistook her fake compassion for love.
All I’m saying is you guys gotta give him a break :/
Yup, because men can't be abused, lied to, and manipulated. Why everyone like to "cancel" character without even knowing the whole story?
Thank you for the explanation, I didnt like him bc ive not read the novel and up in till now he is a dick. But this explains his actions a bit!
@nimmi has a point bc we're talking about fictional characters. but the way you phrased that shows that you aply that logic to real people which is not olay. let me tell you something, my "father" beat up my mom, me and my sisters bc his dad did the same to him and my grandmother, how do you expect us to understand him just because that could be an excuse for his behavior? yeah, no. thats not how life works. people can cancel characters for this type of behavior rightfully so, especially when they dont know the whole story. I mean we're talking about the webtoon adaptation here, not the light novel. anyways. thats just what I wanted to add. food for thoughts.
You've miss my point entirely. It's not excuse, it was literally said in the story that they were drugged for years to the point that both was paranoid so much, that all of that lead to the tragic. That's not all what happened in the last timeline but I won't spoiler it as it is a spoiler from novel. Also sorry for your shitty childhood, that's really sad
