God, I love this author so much. Both Rumspringa and Dear Gene resonated with me so much.
As for the reason why Trevor and Gene didnt contact each other, it may be due to the plot of lil Gene who'd reunite them, and also due to the subtext. They mightve mutually decided to break up and not contact each other bc Trevor wants Gene, who was still young, to discover the world and carve his own path. They both want each other to move on. Since Karen didnt talk about Trevor at all when contacting him, they probably dont know if both still loved each other or have a significant other. In the end, they still both love and cherish each other very much and its obvious howd it end. Theyd be more than lovers, theyd also be friends and family. Which is a really an amazing open ending.
Hopefully, thered be other Rumspringa stories bc I just love this concept a lot. Maybe for lil Gene or another Rumspringa kiddo. Also hope that Theo and Oz would meet them too, since Theo and Gene know each other.
