Y’all let’s be fr. Pirating manga doesn’t hurt authors lol. Idk if they live in some delusional world where every single “illegal” reader would have bought their work legitimately, bc that’s not what would have happened. I’m all for protecting your intellectual property. If you don’t want it, sure, fight against your work being pirated. All I’m saying is that it is an incredibly stupid decision. I wouldn’t even know about 90% of these comics if not for illegal websites increasing their popularity and visibility. Reading some here that I really enjoyed even led to me giving the authors money to support their work. Do you really think anyone outside of korea would even know about these manhwa if not for these pirating sites? I’ll bet that they would be making less money if not for these sites because nobody would even find out their comics exist otherwise.
Same logic with books! I buy the physical copy after I’ve read it pirated online. Why would I spend my money on something that I’m not even sure I will like? If the ending is trash, you can forget about me buying it. Piracy means your consumers know what they’re getting. If you don’t want your work pirated, that’s totally fair. Just don’t be surprised if your sales plummet.
Not really. With how the social media is progressing rn. Theres enough advertisements they need without the illegal sites. Also thats just mean to say. How do u like working 9-5 for free. You probably wont even accept minimum wage. Its hypocritical of me to commemt when I am also here but we’re leeching on their work. Have some decency.

I have literally ever seen any advertisement for these things and I’m their target audience lol. For free? I literally explained why pirating boosts visibility for sales. How do you expect your audience to even know you exist otherwise.

I also… draw comics…. For free! Btw. I don’t earn anything because they are not very good, but drawing comics for money is a very blessed opportunity most people will never have. They can easily find another job if they really cared.

And tbh, even if I did see an interesting advert, that would just make me try to find it pirated because again, I’m not about to pay for something that only looks interesting at the surface level but has a concealed shit story and ending

fr, OP is too entitled. id like to see them arguing that to the authors face. like i know its hypocritical but atleast im self aware that its not right.

I would totally tell them that in the face lol. It’s a stupid business decision

Plus you think manhwa is the only thing being pirated? My all time favorite manga is out of print. I managed to buy some before they were gone forever but now the only way to read it without buying from some shady second hand seller is online with piracy
Reading all your comment and replies... is incredibly mean what youre saying and genuinely thinking you are right, I will not discuss about this but I needed to mention how horrible your point of view (wich is not a pov thing but facts), may someone have the time to make you realize what youre saying is actually wrong in so many ways, cz I got no patience to debate online with people with your mentality, if not, plz try to figure it out yourself

Well, considering I’ve given actual points to which I’ve seen no retorts I have an answer too I’ll stick with my opinion. Not a fan of believing something without evidence :) and from personal experience pirating leads to me actually spending money. If they want to remove their work they should have the right to. But I believe it is a stupid and counterintuitive decision. Not sure why me thinking it’s a stupid decision is a mean and horrible point, but sure.
From what i gather, OP just have 0 conscience and thinks authors who makes comics below their perceived standard has no right to think badly of their work being stolen. "If i like their work i'll pay them, if not, they don't deserve a single ounce of respect" lol

Deserving 0 respect is a bit of a stretch from what I said lol? Why should I pay for a work I don’t enjoy and don’t want to own? If you go into a store do you have to buy every piece of clothing you try on or just the ones that you like?

It’s true just based on what I’ve experienced. Without these sites I wouldn’t have even had the opportunity to discover they exist to give them money in the first place. I doubt I’m the only one

i mean trying on clothes is not paywalled and those webtoons are paywalled. thats not a good comparison but i shall just not argue anymore lol
Just cuz illegal piracy promotes their content doesnt mean it is guaranteed profit. Nobody wants to rely on "potential" when the odds are probably against their gains. You're betting authors would have made less money if not for illegal piracy, but author's are probably betting even if they made less money, at least less people are getting it for free. Either way, the author is working hard and isn't making money, so why pretend illegal piracy is doing author's a favor, like they should be glad they're being robbed.
People pirate all the time so I don't really see any issue with it, but man, at least be self aware that authors arent supposed to be grateful for your piracy.
i mean trying on clothes is not paywalled and those webtoons are paywalled. thats not a good comparison but i shall just not argue anymore lol LGtfo
It is a pretty good comparison. Pirating is my equivalent of being able to try on clothes. Who is willing to buy clothes they don’t even know if it will fit them without trying it on? Same for webtoons. Who is willing to spend without even testing to see if they will like the product to begin with? Some people maybe. But not a good amount. Without pirating, people lose that portion of their potential audience. If they want to lose them, by all means, it’s their right to if they are not comfortable with it. But it doesn’t change the fact it is a stupid business decision.

Tldr: yes that’s exactly my point. Trying on clothes is not paywalled, but webtoons are. My argument is it’s a smarter decision to let consumers “test” webtoons as they would “test” clothes to see if they even want to buy it

Nobody said the authors should he grateful. If they are uncomfortable with piracy I said I support them in taking their work down for intellectual property reasons. However from my personal experience it’s not a smart business strategy.
And I said they should have the right to remove their work LOL. Just that it’s a stupid business decision ? CimmicaCocoa
It's their right and you have no say if its a bad business decision or not, and even if they don't care their company WOULD. Because its their IP.
With the way you talk about authors you sound like a total douchebag, just read your replies... Literally all pilot episodes are free. Some even going as far as 12 chapters but the norm is 3 to 7, thats your free trial lol, you decide on those pilot episodes if you pay or not. But it sounds like you wanted the whole story before deciding its worth your time.

Yes because imo a bad ending is a deal breaker as I’ve previously stated. And of course I have a right to say it’s a stupid business decision. I’m not making the decision for them. They are free to make as many decisions as they want that I perceive as stupid

They’re just ragebaiting, just smile and move on guys
can we have self awareness
Apparently not. And cant have a brain too.

What part of it is a ragebait? Unfortunately I don’t see anything unreasonable about what I’ve said and the only retorts I’m getting are all strawmand
Where is the conflicting part of having self awareness and having this opinion? So far nobody has given an argument that isn’t a strawman
Nice strawman, doesn’t really impact my opinion
