It was about a boy who was being abused by u think what he thought was his lover and he gets outed and ends up leaving school, his older brother is abusive too and constantly berating him and telling him not to mess up again when he goes back to school. He ends up finding a new guy but his ex finds out he’s back in school when one of the bullies recognizes him and mentions him, he then tries to get him back. It sort of ends up like a love triangle but it’s just that the prior ex is forcing himself on him while he’s in love with the other younger guy, at the end the ex tries to make him live with him and is being weirdly nice and uke runs off and goes to the better guys place who pretty much saves him. I’m pretty sure toxic ex had blonde hair and good guy dark hair, uke also had dark hair, I really wanna reread it please help
NVM I found it

I think had we gone through a redemption arc and THEN the sad backstory maybe then I’d feel bad for him, but right now it just feels like we’re being given excuses for why he treated Dan that way. It explains some of his actions, but doesn’t excuse it. Yes there’s a cycle of abuse, but that doesn’t make it okay lol he’s still very much a bad person who did horrible things to Dan. I like dramatic stories with these kinds of plot lines, but this attempt at making jjk look sad and pitiful is not working
Exaclty ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
This! The last few chapters have had me commenting the same thing, the author didn't play her cards right with JK's story, she should have given us a reason to root for him or humanize him *before* showing us this backstory, if played correctly these chapters would be hitting so hard and added layers to the character. But the way it's going it feels, like you said, as an excuse
Exactly, it could’ve had a lot more promise
