Lets be real, it started as BL but as it gained traction the author pulled out to reach a larger public, still a good read but sad they used BL to gain readers and just decided to go another route as it became famous
The author spoke on this a few times actually! The plan in that regard hasn't changed and the story has never and will never be a BL. As said by the author, it's a horror coming of age story with queer characters within it and they don't believe that every story that features queer characters needs to specifically be about queerness.
Theres still romantic subtext within the story as its very rare to find a chapter without any. Heavily implying the series is queer baiting because its focusing on the horror of the story when that has been the primary focus from the start is, in the nicest way possible, completely ignoring what the series is about and a bit of an insult to the author. The series has never been a bl. It never will be a bl. It's simply a horror story with lgbt protagonists.
It never even felt like a BL, it was primarily horror since the beginning. The story doesn’t need to be a BL to contain a romantic relationship between two men. Think the Hannibal serial, the two protagonists are obviously in love, however, the show doesn’t focus on romance.
Ikr it’s lame as hell
its like you didnt even read read the manga. you’re being quite disrespectful going on and saying all that on your own. a series can have BL and not be under the BL genre. also what about this feels queerbaity? some of the romantic subtext in this story is just straight up text. if you think about whats actually going on currently, you’ll realise the author poses much more of a bigger question about yoshiki’s objective feelings for past hikaru through his actions with “hikaru”. it is said quite straightforwardly. its a shame you think all BL needs to be at the forefront. when you read a shounen manga, are the romantic subplots always at the forefront? do you get mad when the straight couples arent expanded on enough during the plot developments? likely no. because thats not the point of the genre.
this manga allows readers to think beyond what most western BL readers would expect. yaoi brainrot is real. stay woke and support the author.
they used bl to gain readers? the plot still highlights what it's like to be queer in the countryside so idk what you're on
Hannibal is sooo good
