Can anyone explain to me this "esper & guide trope" in BLs?

Honestly, I've read a story about it but I think the explanation was lacking. But somehow it feels sorta like Alpha, Omega and Beta for me, like they have similar concept.

I've read a story of it but forgot the manhwa name. I'm also curious about their "job", in the story I read the author was pretty vague so I couldn't really know what it was.
