umm i think ghostie can answer this better than me bc she's further in the novel but my guess is that mr liu is just very very protective of the phantom gallery and puts their comfort above the discomfort of "outsiders" which includes our mc. iirc previous comments said he doesn't like shushu romantically though but take that with a grain of salt
